What Goes Wrong?
Jan 07, In dire need of assistance in the removal of the lower control arm bushings on a Forester. Appears to be the same bushings as Impreza. Rented a press but cannot find proper size to use for pressing them and all the shops in the area are closed.

The nut is surrounding by the frame, tie rod, and no room for a wrench to swing because of the sway bar. Nov 03, Hit the A-arm with a hammer from the side and it should break the stud loose inside the A-arm. Pry down on the A-arm and move the entire strut assembly with the ball joint attached out of the A-arm. Remove the ball joint through bolt. If you feel on the inside of the housing, there is a cut. Wedge a prybar into there and beat it in with a hammer. Based on design requirements, cars can have both an upper and a lower control arm at each side (driver & passenger) or only a pair of lower at each side. Each type of control arm has got rubber bushings at each of the pivot points, which aim to prevent friction and allow the wheels to return to their right positions after recieving the impacts. Ended up pressing out the bushings. Surprisingly my local Subaru dealer had all 4 bushings in-stock. Used a 1" impact socket to press out the small inner bushing and a 60/70MM cup for the larger rear bushing.

What I am saying is that all my hardware on the bushing (the nut, the metal plate, and the lower control arm bushing bolt) is in bad shape, I mean rusty.
Me mechanic is worried the once he hits it with impact wrench, stuff is going to break. Oct 27, A pair of new control arms from Subaru would be +. Since the ball joints were fine I elected to only replace both bushings (inner and outer).
My local Subaru dealer sold me all 4 bushings for aboutOTD. The perfect driver tool for the inner control arm bushing. Mar 03, I had my first bushing out of the driver side Upper Control Arm in 15 minutes. I took me another 15 minutes to get the lower rear control arm bushings out and even less time installing the new bushings. Most of my time was spent finding the right size sockets and other tools to remove/replace the bushings.
